So now it seems like a lot of people relate to therianthropes as an umbrella for "ID as literally" and otherkin is thought of as "theyre so like me i adopt an identity based on them"? Which is funny bc therianthrope means "beast-human." But hey, semantic drift is inevitable.

This surprises me, because our system has been in otherkin spaces since 2008 and kin are also "on all levels except physical,". The difference in the communities was mythical and sci fi beings, and therianthropes are animal people. But Tumblr kinda took kin and ran, so it changed for some ppl.

Like, she made a mistake in saying anything at all, tbh. I think she reacted poorly, and then came back and said "i support your headcanons" while ultimately positioning her own ideas as Ultimate Truth on the matter and everything else as fun little fantasies that have no real impact on the text.

I think a bigger picture, too, is that Dana made a mistake by declaring her character is "actually" anything, and that her intention is truth while all other readings are "headcanon." She will have her own ideas about her own work, but others will relate to it differently, and those are equally true
