Our data from 30,000+ EVs shows that battery replacements are actually quite rare. Less than 2.5% of EVs have needed battery replacements outside of manufacturer defects. Most EV batteries are outlasting expectations and retaining 80-90% capacity well past 100,000 miles.

Our research also finds that most EVs retain 90%+ of their battery capacity after 5 years of use. The "few years or less" scenario simply doesn't match what we're seeing in the field.

Battery replacement is actually very rare, after studying 35,000 EVs on the road.

According to our data, less than 2.5% of batteries have needed replacement outside of warranty recalls... ever. Most modern EV batteries are built to outlast the vehicle itself.

We are actually reworking it right now with new data.

Rather than break out by model year, I was encouraged the team to group by EV generations... either based on tech or mass market-ness.

My fear is that with year, people focus on the trend line.

Any advice?

The thing that often gets lost is that gen 1 EVs lacked thermal management so we don't see it as linear based on age. Apples and oranges.

Largely what we're seeing in Recurrent data too.

Only 2% of the 30,000 vehicles on our platform have needed a battery replacement.
I got mine read during the service the other day as I’m thinking of selling soon - buyers need confidence the battery is good.

100% of stated capacity available at 81,000miles / 130,000km.
And I don’t faff with it going beyond 80% etc etc. Very rarely charge away from home though.

Trump calls it the green scam. Investors call it a gold rush.

These are the stories we need right now

Encouraging. The green economy no longer needs political permission. It’s being built by AI, China, and capital markets... even with less from climate policy.

#3 is a point, since that's already shared with gas cars: hwy vs city

Some models exceed EPA when new so that's how used cars can still meet or exceed EPA when used

Charger uptime keeps improving. I took a 1500-mile trip in February with 100% success from EA fast chargers.

The thing that hasn't changed is that home charging is essential in the Midwest. Getting to wake up each morning with a "full tank" that only costs $2.75 very, very convenient.

Public chargers have doubled since 2021 with 200,000+ today, including 50,000+ fast-charging stalls. My stops are typically under 15 min.

Getting access to Tesla Superchargers has eliminated range anxiety. Similar to gas stations, there are often multiple charging options at popular highway exits.

Charging stations are getting prime placement. This pic is from a trip this week to visit my mother. A grocery store right off the highway meant I could get myself a coffee and some flowers for my mom in the 13 min it took to charge.
