I heard about the story on Twitter. The high-level details shocked me into insomnia early on Monday morning. Mind you, I saw no pictures or videos of the incident. Your account has sent me back into disturbia.

So, we must now accept that SA women are justified prey to the predators that is SA men?

It’s been a hectic two days. South African men saying they understand him. Omg I’m so traumatised

Turns out, he has tried to kill her twice before. Once with a knife and another time he ran her over with his car. Her family also says his video was peddled with lies

Also thank you for this chat

Thank you. I need to learn to not allow people who haven’t scratched the surface with their trauma. It interferes with my journey

Thank you. It’s been 2 years for me. At times it feels like I’m not healing at all. But I know I’m doing the work

I am grateful that myself and my family are safe and we still have a roof over our heads, but I’m terrified of these weather changes and how we are not prepared for them.

Covid was a lot, we don’t need more trauma.

I’m also thinking about the unemployed mothers and fathers who are in distress because they won’t have money to rebuild.

Part of mall just 4 km from me is completely destroyed. 😭

Right now in Randfontein and surrounding areas, entire complexes are without roofs, homes are destroyed, and people are displaced.

I can’t stop thinking about the women and children who become more vulnerable to abuse and sexual violence when displaced.

I was so traumatised, I started googling new places to live. But after over 24 hours, I’ve realised there’s no “safer” place to move to unless we start taking climate change seriously!!

This country is experiencing strange weather events that are destroying lives and livelihoods.

Meanwhile, it felt like the whole flat was shaking.

Can you imagine? Just minutes after that, everything stopped, and it was sunny again—like it had never rained.

The trap door from the ceiling fell, and I could feel hail and rain getting inside. The kitchen door was under so much pressure, water started pouring into the flat.

I grabbed a towel to cover the door and locked myself in my room, hoping it would all go away.

Later, around the time my helper would have been preparing to leave, the sun disappeared, the clouds turned dark, and the rain came down violently. I rushed to close the windows, but the force was so intense, things were falling all over the house.

By 6:30, it was clear and sunny, as if the storm had never happened. We took kiddo to school and returned with no issues.

I work from home and was alone for the day. It stayed chilly but sunny.

There’s rain, and then there’s whatever that was, and it was super scary.

I woke up that morning around 5:30 to heavy rain—it sounded so violent, so I quickly texted our helper to stay home.
