I’m designing a solitaire adventure game that uses rubber stamps and colored pencils as map-making tools.

The player stamps each hex as they explore it, gradually revealing the map. The symbols are white on a black background, so the player can color them too.

Here is an example of the reverse style, using more recent art. I like how versatile it is, with the little worlds and space stations orbiting in different positions.

The original version was black on white, with smaller stamps that could be stamped to mark worlds and stations. Here's a photo of an early prototype, which also used a stencil to make routes between worlds. I may release the stamps in this style too, for players who prefer its versatility.

I make rubber stamps as map-making tools. My earlier editions were for fantasy games, depicting iconic terrain like mountains and forests. I’m starting to explore other genres, and my next edition will be “Star Chart”, which can be used for games set in outer space.

I like how you used the stamps to add some details. I tried something similar, mocking up a little map with the Cartographers stamps and some prototypes for chests, pillars, and pools. I didn't stamp the walls, but in theory we could do that too. Is that what you had in mind?

One of the reasons I haven't released dungeon stamps or stencils is that when I run games, I use stone mosaics to create dungeons. I lay out the tiles out on sheets of black felt, gradually adding and removing sheets as the players explore in different directions.

It can more more difficult to stamp the walls of a dungeon, although this is less of an issue with cave walls. In the example below, I used the shoreline stamp from Perilous Shores to stamp the walls of a dungeon.

I've been experimenting with dungeon stamps and stencils for a number of years. I've been focusing on stencils for the most part, because they make it possible to rapidly stencil the floor of a room and to orient the walls so that they line up.

I've been experimenting with smaller hexes, which leave less space between the stamped images. I think this works especially well for the smaller stamps in the Cartographers edition. There is less space between the individual trees, which makes the forests feel more cohesive.

Game Stamps are map-making tools for role-playing games and board-games. This map was made with the Cartographers edition, using a stencil to create the colorful hexes in the background.
