Looking at my past few years of reviews for GameSpot, I've noticed a trend: I've looked at a lot of remakes and remasters. A lot of them have been good--great, even. It makes me happy to see games that had a big impact in Japan in their heyday, like Live A Live and Romancing SaGa 2, finally make the journey overseas. But lately, I've been feeling like these remakes specifically are lacking something. While I enjoyed many of these titles, there was just something I couldn't put my finger on that felt off. I thought that maybe I was experiencing a sort of odd fatigue from having gone through so many of them over the past few years, but when I played through Dragon Quest I and II HD recently, I was finally able to figure out exactly what's irking me. Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser may have included an advanced AI as a plot in his new novel, A Better Paradise: Volume One - An Aftermath, but he's not as impressed with the current state of the technology. During a recent appearance, Houser didn't completely downplay AI, but he noted that the technology isn't everything some of its proponents have made it out to be. While making a guest appearance on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, Houser acknowledged that his upcoming video game based on A Better Paradise may have some AI. But he also warned that the technology behind AI can't live up to its biggest promises yet. "We are dabbling in using AI, but the truth is a lot of it's not as useful as some of the companies would have you believe yet," said Houser. "It's not going to solve all of the problems, you know. Pokemon Legends Z-A: Mega Dimension is set to launch next month, and excitement is already building as fans anticipate its Hoopa-focused storyline and the return of several classic Pokemon, including new Mega Evolutions. To mark the upcoming release, The Pokemon Company is partnering with the Pikachu Sweets Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo to introduce a themed menu inspired directly by the DLC's mysteries and motifs. These limited-time offerings aim to give fans a preview of what awaits in the expansion, in an edible form. Microsoft's next product category has emerged: shoes. More specifically, Microsoft is teaming up with Crocs, Inc. for a new line of Xbox-branded Crocs and themed Jibbitz. The shoes go on sale tomorrow, November 25, so you don't have to wait very long to get your feet into them. The $80 shoes have been "designed with gamers in mind," the company said. The individual black-and-green shoes are labeled "Player Left" and "Player Right," and include fixed joysticks and buttons on them, replicating the Xbox controller. A harmless prophecy turned into confusion about whether Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet would show up at The Game Awards next month. But the Naughty Dog title reportedly won't be seen at the show. Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb confirmed that Intergalactic won't appear at The Game Awards in December. Additionally, Grubb also stated on X that Intergalactic isn't coming out in 2026. When it was announced in September 2025, Pokemon Pokopia appeared to be the franchise's cozy-game answer to Animal Crossing and Minecraft. But after the recently released extended trailer for the game, fans have pointed out intriguing and dark links to some of the previous titles in the franchise. It's almost unsettling that one of the first things seen in the extended trailer is a devastated Pokemon Center and a generation-one Pokedex. As noted on Reddit (via Eurogamer), one of the fan theories suggests that Pokopia is set on Cinnabar Island from the Kanto region, which was originally featured in Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow. As depicted in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Cinnabar Island was devastated by a volcano eruption that left a Pokemon Center as one of the last remaining structures, much like the one glimpsed in Pokopia's trailer. Professor Tangrowth--a character introduced in the trailer--mentions that he hasn't seen humans in a long time, but the island has other evidence that people once lived there including roads and other buildings. The strange Pokemon variations introduced in the trailer--like the stark-white Pikachu known as Peakychu--may have been created at Cinnabar Island's Pokemon Mansion. After three years of mysteriously absent email-checking, Strong Bad has finally smashed his boxing-gloved fists onto the keyboard once more, returning with a brand-new message for his loyal fans. And in true Strong Bad fashion, it's about robots--again--and this time they apparently want to discuss their favorite sauces. His comeback feels like stepping back into Free Country, USA itself: chaotic, ridiculous, and somehow still deeply important to a generation. It also offers the perfect opportunity to revisit the era when Strong Bad and the rest of the Homestar Runner cast broke out of browser windows and into full-fledged video games. The most defining gaming moment for the franchise came with the Telltale game Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, a five-episode point-and-click adventure released throughout 2008. The game played like an interactive Homestar Runner cartoon, built in close collaboration with the Brothers Chaps, who supplied writing, design input, and voice work. Guiding Strong Bad through his latest harebrained schemes--from band competitions to clumsy attempts at political takeover--gave fans a new way to revel in the character's larger-than-life personality, all while exploring familiar territory like the House of Strong and Bubs' Concession Stand. A large part of the game's charm came from its faithfulness to the original Flash cartoons. While it followed Telltale's traditional adventure formula, the world was loaded with oddball interactions, surreal conversations, and puzzles that functioned less on logic and more on the internal rules of Homestar Runner's absurdity. The muted response to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 from critics and fans appears to have translated into lower sales for the futuristic first-person shooter, with the game reportedly falling behind competitors in a few regions. The Game Business described Black Ops 7's European launch as "disappointing," citing GSD, which tracks physical and digital sales data. Sales numbers for Black Ops 7's opening week are 63% below those of Battlefield 6, and The Game Business also estimates that sales are over 50% down compared to last year's Black Ops 6. Even still, the GSD numbers indicate that Black Ops 7 was still the top-selling game in Europe during its opening week. The Assassin's Creed series "exceeded" Ubisoft's expectations for the latest quarter, the French publisher has confirmed, while also providing updates on the success of the last two big games, Mirage and Shadows. In its latest earnings briefing, Ubisoft said the Assassin's Creed series overall "posted a strong performance" in the latest quarter, including sales of the newest game, Shadows, and back-catalog titles. The Assassin's Creed series had more than 211 million "session days" so far in 2025, which is about 35% higher than the average for the past two years, Ubisoft said. Ubisoft added that the recent launch of the New Game+ mode for Shadows benefitted the game, as did the Claws of Awaji expansion. After a relatively brief season that had no big star leading the show, Fortnite Festival is returning to normal for Chapter 7. The next headlining artist for Harmonix's rhythm game will be Lisa, the singer/rapper/dancer/actor best known as a member of Blackpink. Lisa will have a skin and jam track on the new Starlux music pass, and she'll also have a set of cosmetics in the item shop for the duration of the season, which begins November 29.Lisa is Fortnite Festival's tenth headlining artist. The Starlux music pass launches on November 29 alongside the start of Fortnite Chapter 7. Bethesda did a shadowdrop for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year, and it was a big success. Another Bethesda-published game, Hi-Fi Rush, had a shadowdrop as well. Now, Bethesda Game Studios director Tom Mustaine is openly calling for more releases of this type in the future from other developers across the industry. Speaking to GamesRadar, Mustaine said the shadowdrop approach is a favorite of Bethesda boss Todd Howard, and releasing games like this can be a way to reach players who may have short attention spans. "We all have short attention spans now," he said. "There's Grand Theft Auto, for example. I want that today, right? So it is an interesting strategy ... I don't have any ideas of what would be next, but I hope it's not the last. Personally, I think it was great to own the internet for that day and, you know, give people exactly what they want the moment we talk about it. Embark Studios' mega-popular extraction shooter Arc Raiders has some competition on Steam's most-played game chart, as there's a newcomer on the list: the free-to-play, open-world Wuxia fighter Where Winds Meet. Where Winds Meet is the debut title from Chinese developer Everstone Studio. Set during ancient China's Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (about 907 to 979 AD), the game is this fantastical amalgam of MMO, action-adventure, and RPG mechanics that seamlessly blends into an open-world environment you can play either in solo or multiplayer modes. There are epic sword fights with flashy combos, Tai Chi moves to basically force-throw animals and enemies, and bosses that rival a From Software game in size and difficulty. Not to mention the wealth of content in the first two regions--Kaifeng and Qinghe--that easily contain hundreds of hours of stuff to do, secrets to find, puzzles to solve, and baddies to beat up. The best part is it's all totally free. Almost everything you experience in Where Winds Meet is free to play. There are premium currencies to buy, a battle pass to purchase and upgrade, clothes and accessories to fill your (digital) wardrobe with--you know, "free-to-play" stuff. However, the action of the game--the bosses, the weapons, the main and side objectives, the minigames, etc.--doesn't cost you anything to play. That's true of future content as well. Actor Charlie Cox was nominated for Best Performance at this year's Game Awards for his role as Gustave in the breakout hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. He's now reacted to receiving that nomination, saying he is thrilled, but also making it clear that the credit ought to go to the performance-capture actor, Maxence Cazorla. "I am thrilled for this nomination," Cox said at the La Conve/Animex event in Mexico recently. "There is an amazing French actor by the name of Maxence Cazorla who did almost all of the motion capture for that role in that game. Any nomination, or any credit I get, I have to give to him. Netflix's The Witcher series made a drastic change for its latest season, with The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth stepping in to replace Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt. Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt in the video games, has reacted to the change, saying Hemsworth has done a "fantastic" job taking over for Cavill and has made the role his own. "I loved Henry. He was a fantastic Witcher, Geralt, specifically, so I was sad to see him go, but I have watched the newest season, and I think Liam holds up pretty well," Cockle told GamesRadar. "He's different. He's made it his own character, and that's what he should have done as an actor, and I think he's done a fantastic job." Valve will not say what the Steam Machine's price is just yet, and in this information vacuum, people are offering all kinds of different theories and guesses as to what the six-inch cube-like system may cost. Now, Valve has yet again commented on the pricing question, providing potentially the best clue yet, while also saying the company cannot or will not disclose pricing yet due to "a lot of external things." Speaking to Skill Up--which is co-hosted by GameSpot's Lucy James--Valve software engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais said people can expect the price of the Steam Machine to be close to what it might cost to build a PC with "basically the same level of performance." "I think that if you build a PC from parts and get to basically the same level of performance, that's the general price window that we aim to be at," he said, as reported by IGN. "Ideally we'd be pretty competitive with that and have a pretty good deal, but we're working on refining that as we speak. Legendary German actor Udo Kier has died at the age of 81. The news was confirmed by Kier's partner Delbert McBride via Variety. With hundreds of film and TV credits spanning decades, Kier rose to fame in horror films like Mark of the Devil, Flesh for Frankenstein, and Blood for Dracula in the '70s. His breakthrough Hollywood role came in 1991's My Own Private Idaho, and he'd go on to appear in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Johnny Mnemonic, Armageddon, and Madonna music videos. In recent years, Kier was one of the actors set to appear in Hideo Kojima's upcoming horror game OD.
