Live near London. Ex-poker industry. Enjoyer of games, historical and new. Particularly like indie-spirited art-games that innovate with the form. Hoping to one day write and finish a book about the medium and its history.
As I powerwash the next building or vehicle (Powerwash Simulator 1/2) I get similar emotions. In one sense it's pure dopamine pleasure, but accompanied by a 'wtf am I doing with my time' feeling.

In some ways it's an intrinsic part of the half-reality (unreality?) of gaming. That same self-guilt!!!

There's also a group of single-player games that seem to fit similar characteristics. Similar success stories too.

Schedule I. Supermarket Simulator etc. Getting Over It? A Game About Digging A Hole.

Is the common factor 'satire' of some sort? Of gameplay, of game form, of 'doing things'?

It will hopefully survive in private server form.

I don't like the idea of any games disappearing, but as an MMO fan I am unusual in that I just don't like or support endlessly playable MMOs - I think you should enjoy the game for a while and then get on with your real life.

Like a healthy person.

I do tip my hat to a dev team that delivered a popular expansion for free, then made the previous expansion free too!

I don't see how that makes any money for amazon, but it sure has been a bonus for players of the game.

Great way to bow out.

For all it's troubles, it's imo been a great game.

It seems to me like the PC and console offerings are going to diverge more.

The vision may be the next xbox console is one where the monthly subscription becomes nearly everything it offers.

Maybe that deal they did w this gen of the box coming free with a 3yr subscription is the way most buy it.

A question is whether the criticism of gamepass's impact on the industry would be lessened by the higher prices.

If it's no longer such a no-brainer value deal, maybe it doesn't bastardise the storefront as much?

Idk. I don't think the arguments against it in that context were that strong anyway.

From the Microsoft POV I totally get it. The bet is that having paid out on console, peripherals, internet etc, those consumers will pay more for a subscription.

I think they're right.

And if not, there are lower tiers available. They know the model works - xbox live proved that over 20 years!
