A grad student threw my urns for the last 3 years to help fast track my progress. This is how we transported them to my studio so I could carve! 😅

The Karner Blue Butterfly keeps drawing me in—its colors shift by gender, and it adores the lupine flower, which I had to include. The background swirls and swoops, capturing its delicate flight. What’s your favorite endangered butterfly?

Meet Stella, my studio pup. She makes sure I don’t get lost in carving by demanding regular ball-throwing breaks, forcing me outside and into fresh air. She keeps me grounded, and honestly, the studio wouldn't be the same without her.

Who has a four-legged coworker keeping them in check?

Each week, I’ll share an urn and the story of an endangered species I’ve carved. First up: Contra Costa goldfields, a rare Bay Area wildflower. Thanks to grazing cattle, they’re making a hopeful return. Have you spotted these golden blooms in California? 🌼

Making urns for each species in the US – whether endangered, threatened, recovered, or extinct. It’s a journey of 1100 pots, a mix of emotions from overwhelming to inspiring. Yet, there’s a sense of purpose and growth. Sharing ideas, building skills, and making an impact within my community.

I am a potter, not a scientist, but I am using my craft to bring attention to endangered species. This project began with a question: "How can I use my skills to raise awareness and spark change?"

So, I am carving a burial urn for each endangered species in the continental US.
