I'm currently working on plotting my debut series after learning from a somewhat tumultuous first draft experience that I can't just "wing it" when it comes to story structure.
It's going well so far, and my goal is to get chapter outlines for the whole series before I work on book 1 again.

I've really enjoyed my process of writing the first draft of my story as a screenplay. There are two benefits that I cannot stfu about to my friends:
1. Working under strict constraints of showing v telling
2. Getting a complete story down to start the content editing stage asap

My all-time favorite example of this is Jim Butcher's Codex Alera. Though I didn't learn until after finishing the series, the concept is "descendants of the lost Legio IX Hispana wield Pokemon against invading Starcraft Zergs. Great read!

I think the point about monetary gain is that when you take something that takes an artist 100hours of work for a so-so wage and do it 1,000x faster, it doesn't matter if it's only 15% of the quality- you're still making good money while potentially depriving someone else a living

Impact in what way? Impact on the individual reading the book(prose/storytelling quality), or the social impact of the book(popularity/cultural footprint)?

I quite disagree, Nick! As long as the heart and mind are willing, I'd say it's our prerogative to engage in a bit madness from time to time.
As long as emotional truth and quality of prose come first, try to iron out those kinks. Do your best to fail fast, and only kill your darlings if you must.

I'm always down to give a first impression/critique if you'd like- especially on the crucially important first chapter.

It's a fantastic sign that you're enjoying reading your own work!
I personally get so bothered reading my own work that I can be just a few paragraphs in and I'm already itching to make edits.

I'm not the legendary Neil himself, but I'd gladly give some pointers if you like.
