you're an academic right? and you probably spend time around other academics or similar folk. often times it's your job to not act that way and you're better at your job by not acting that way. however, for most people it's enough to be told something by someone they trust.

we're are in agreement about how dangerous current llm models can be but we are in disagreement about how humans behave. most people do speak confidently and coherently about things while being incorrect or inaccurate. most people believe the first thing they hear. most people don't research claims.

We can do all this while still maintaining space for safety, comfort, anger, and especially for creating communities that reflect the world we want to live in.

We have to form coalitions, be willing to talk with people who disagree with us, channel our anger in healthier ways, and be constructive shepards in our communities.

Things for trans people have, on average, gotten worse since I started transitioning over 10 years ago. There are things outside our control that are causing much of this; however, there are also things we are collectively doing to cause this. We have to grapple with this.

I am saying what I've been saying for years: If we continue down this (unforced) path of refusing to engage with people constructively, attempting to exile those who don't immediately agree, and making strategic blunders as a group seeking rights then we will all suffer immensely as a result.

The first thirty minutes of this interview include her explaining why our channeling of righteous anger has been counter-productive. It's why, in part, our own actions have contributed to our fight for rights losing popular momentum.
