DURING THE LAST COLD SNAP, we took this thermal photo of our smaller hive. The glow is where the honey bees are clustered inside. Hopefully they'll survive the winter even after it turns cold again (we've been in the 60s and 70s lately).

FOR TWO WEEKS, I've tried to record the life-cycle of our last pink dahlia (clockwise from upper left). It was stunted from the cold nights to begin with; then it took what warmth the days offered and finally filled out into a beautiful flower. Some people are that way, too, and just need patience.

WE'VE ALL BEEN BUSY lately proofreading "Barf Table III: Diamonds and Stone" -- so much interest because one key character is a long-haired German Shepherd.

WELL, I CAN'T SAY now that I've never been strung by my bees. One of the girls popped me on the cheek today as I took this video. I still love them, though.

THIS DEFINITELY ISN’T what a beekeeper wants to see -- and hear -- right *after* he opens a hive. The girls got agitated, so we fed them as quickly as we could. I did peek and see that this hive's super appears to be full of honey. Our smaller hive isn't nearly as productive.

Dini (short for Houdini) wishes we'd open the window again, just enough for her to knock out the screen and squeeze out. A year ago when we adopted her, she did that but didn't run off. We found her the next morning in the garage driveway, waiting to be fed, as usual.

OH, THE TANGLED WEB we weave when first we practice to deceive.

GONNA SLOWLY MIGRATE back over here from all those zucked-up platforms that have become quagmires of disinformation.

This has been a big part of our spring and summer -- starting new colonies of honey bees after losing our two hives last year. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with a hurricane this summer or fall.

What's up? That's a good question.
It seems the world has gone mad.
Maybe it's the monkberry moon,
Maybe it's something in the water,
Maybe it's the man who's so bad
At doing what he shouldn't oughta.
But it's gonna end before too long.
It just takes time to die of a cancer.

The same frame, seven days apart (left, June 2; right, June 9). We love our queen bee and her girls.

REMEMBER THE QUESTION?
Are you better off now
Than you were
Four years ago?
How time flies in Trump's hell.
Are you better off now
Than you were
Six months ago?
The answer is obvious.
Time to put Trump behind us.
