(For completeness and, if you're interested, to spare you a search, his other prophetic LRB piece was the fascism one. Its prognosis re the centre-left quite wrong and obviously there is much more than can be said about the causes, but otherwise holds up quite well.)

This is basically a curiosity (and EL's recent work useless as well as repellent), but thought I'd note that one of Luttwak's two very prescient LRB pieces in the 1990s was precisely about what'd happen if central bankers were put in charge of macroeconomic management.
