Disagree with MattY most of the time, but he did write one of the best takedowns of that racist scumbag Charles Murray — who I feel is one of the hidden central figures of centrist thought: www.vox.com/2018/4/10/17...
The Bell Curve isn’t about science, it’s about policy. And it’s wrong.
Charles Murray is an incredibly successful — and pernicious — policy entrepreneur.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa is still making films.

We have to give Christian Petzold his flowers.

Don't think any film was better at showing the pipeline of how ideologues wind up as grifters. (Think Occupy Wall Street people becoming Silicon Valley shills.)

And Hollywood failed Edgar Ramirez.

We're gonna look back at the American interpretation of "sola scriptura" as one of the most vile products of American society.

(Also one of America's most destructive exports. The church in my country feels like just another mouthpiece of American Evangelicalism.)

End of that doc shows Miyazaki creating a short film for the Ghibli museum using 3D animation over hand-drawn. Man has multitudes.

IIRC, the doc in which the Miyazaki AI meme appears actually shows his disdain for the object of the tech demonstration - a Silent Hill type monster - rather than the tech itself. He's angered by it because he sees it being inspired by the movements of disabled kids.

And all those old men would a decade later vote Reagan.

Growing up in a Christian community, I always found it funny how Protestants talked smack on the Catholic Bible, saying the additional books were meant to extract more indulgences from other believers.

Curious to ask, what books / literature would you recommend on the different kinds of Bibles?

The new theology is that the joy of heaven is no longer the peace of being with God but the voyeuristic pleasure at watching those in hell burn and scream for a mercy that will never come.

I'm reminded of Chihiro in Spirited Away helping out Haku and No-Face BEFORE she helps out her own parents. It's such a beautiful way of Miyazaki showing us really how far we can expand our circle of care.(Totally against the fascist idea of a hierarchy of care.)

Funny thing is Olaf Moller is 1/3rd of the Ferroni Brigade! That's one loophole they've used to allow each of their members to submit two votes.

Ferroni Brigade are legit good! Crazy entries, yes. But they've opened me up to incredible films and filmmakers that I've never even heard of.

Man I know American Christianity says you're saved by faith and not good works. But now it's like you're saved by faith so you should repudiate good works. As if the Bible didn't say faith without works is useless.

post-liberalism, more a Catholic or Evangelical thing?
January 22, 2025 at 5:01 AM
Agreed, but should take this to its logical conclusion: Ridley Scott has never made a good film!

We should cultivate the moral courage to declare with our words and actions that these people are despicable.
