I swam in the crystal clear river in central Bern, Switzerland, in clean French rivers, and apparently people swim now in the Seine in central Paris, because it is clean enough. Here in the UK I wouldn’t ever chance it.

Weren’t there those Aer Lingus shopping weekends to NY, I’ve a memory of those; the gigantic homes springing up in empty fields near us, surrounded by gravel and nothing else, and I’ve even a memory of people wearing fur coats walking down Kilkenny high street. And the paninis.

And do you know how hard it is to get *onto* a psychology training course here in the UK? They have not made it easier by demanding that psychology students complete a *doctoral* course, whereas in most European countries, a masters + a number of clinical placements will suffice. I gave up applying.

A teacher at my school was fired during those years, for suggesting that some of us, in our class, might be gay… it was the first and last time I heard the word mentioned by a teacher.
