Tacitus was spot on:

To ravage, to slaughter, to usurp under false titles, they call empire; and where they make a desert, they call it peace.

We just don't talk about it?

Turning a blind eye to Trump's lies and defending the BBC for its lies? — “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

I'm not sure that defending the BBC by saying that they are no worse than Trump is the best strategy.

I rely — or rather, used to rely — on the BBC to give me accurate reporting.

It is in itself shocking but even Snopes only published this correction of something that happened in August 2017 (and was widely and misleading me reported upon immediately afterwards) in June 2024.

No, Trump Did Not Call Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists 'Very Fine People'
However, the accuracy of what Trump did claim – that there were "very fine people on both sides" of the 2017 Unite the Right debacle – is in question.

It was exactly the same with Charlotteville. Somehow the words “I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally” didn't get reported.

You might call that “editing for clarity". I call it barefaced distortion.

Apparently the programme showed Mr Trump telling supporters he was going to walk to the Capitol with them to “fight like hell”, when in fact he said he would walk with them “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”.

The memo detailed allegations of one-sided reporting on transgender issues, the mishandling of major global stories and the suppression of dissenting voices, claiming the issues were evidence of “systemic failure” rather than isolated misjudgments.

Charlottesville? Somehow these words weren't widely reported: “I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.”

It's a repeat of Charlottesville!

The media failed to report key words in what he said in order to distort his meaning! 😡

It is precisely because I do not want to listen to Trump’s speeches in their entirety that I want to be able to rely on the BBC to give me a fair summary.

(As for “carefully cultivated fury” that's pretty pathetic framing rhetoric.)
