our fear is not a pair of open arms, nor could it ever be. it is fear of mass death: close, tight, shallow breathed, a cuticle worried bloody. how could we be open and welcome to the other with this deep cortisolion stink hanging on our form

yet we often end up speaking out of our fear instead of our curiosity. in our refusal to imagine again the possible mass death of these beautiful people, we fearfully insist that they leave, that they get out. it is in this moment that we have failed them completely

like, i built a life here ? this is where i am from ? i have a disabled partner ? immigration to canada is fucking impossible unless you have a stack of cash or family in canada ? like, the way you’re talking about this shows almost no compassion for the contingencies people here face

perhaps people don’t like being condescended to or told what to do by people that are not in the situation with them? idk, might be a thing lol
