My "big boots" probably helped

400W to a quarter wave vertical. with a sneaky low noise RX antenna.
What I laughingly call a "mini Beverage" 20m of wire strung along a fence at 50cm above ground, terminated in 450ohms and fed via a 1:9;transformer. Hears stuff lost in noise from the vertical

Thanks for the info, As I live a stone's throw from Baldock, I need to be more careful!! My good friends at Baldock are going to take the piss out of me big time!! I'm not going to live this down!!

Ah! Family, "In my own time!" Happy memories from that one.
Lead singer Roger Chapman was once described as having
"a voice like a field of sheep"
🤣

Just out of interest, are you an automatic computer bot or a human? I note the few posts an followers on your profile? Just interested to know who/what's monitoring and policing our bands!

Thanks for pointing that out! I realised afterwards that I'd done it and I'll be more careful in future! Just a case of getting a little over excited about a new and unexpected DXCC.
It won't happen again!

As RSGB VHF Manager G4SWX often says,
"Life's too short for QRP"
🙂

Just stop it Pete!!
It's only going to make people"s lack of writing ability worse!
When I start using AI to write "GHz Bands, you have my permission to have me shot....

I genuinely don't understand why a billionaire would want more money.
Like if you agree with me.

And I need to go in to Cambridge today for an appointment! I'd much prefer to stay at home and DoodleDX

Whtf fits plugs to stuff these days? Doesn't everything come with IEC leads and moulded on plugs?
I despair..... they'll be telling us how to solder an OC71 transistor in using pliers as a heat shunt to protect it next
November 12, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Yep that's the one I was looking at !!
November 12, 2025 at 12:43 PM
What's the antenna Dale? Been looking at similar from Antennas-Amplifiers for a small 2/70 setup here.

Still there 331Hz even periods
November 10, 2025 at 5:12 PM
Short path over Greenland / Canada. I could get in to this HF propagation stuff!!
November 10, 2025 at 5:09 PM

Charging for QSLs is just a racket, George but it's down to numbers and the cost of postage. The lovely thing about EME is that almost without exception, sending a card with an unstamped SAE will get a return.
Charging for LOTW is just immoral.

As someone brought up in Leeds until the age of 18, I've always considered the greatest thing my adopted home in Cambridgeshire has is the very fact that it's "in the middle of bloody nowhere"

Glad you're still here! It really is a big hobby. Can't match 61 years but 55 in 2026. Two highlights amongst many.
As a teen, coming down a hill in the dark in Yorkshire from the contest operation tent to the sleeping tent and ending knee deep in a bog, 😅and first EME QSO from my own back garden.
