Midsummer/Midsomer/Liða Blessings to everyone! Today we celebrate the Solstice, when Sunne is at her peak and we have the longest day, a triumph of light over dark. Examples of Fyrnsidere Midsomer rituals can be found in the posts that follow this one.

We don't have a hierarchy in our group. The Discord server is run by a few who have shown willing and have varying degrees of experience and knowledge regarding Fyrnsidu. We don't feel the need for titles, positions, or hierarchy. Our focus is on community. Sharing is caring.

Eostre walks where blossoms bloom,
In dawn’s soft light she lifts the gloom.
Not cross, but hare and egg she brings,
Of springtime birth and sacred things.
Forget not roots in pagan cheer,
Eostre reigns this time of year.

Many Fyrnsidere worship Hell or Hel as the goddess who looks over the realm of the dead, which is also known as Hell. Hell appears in at least one example of Old English literature showing she is not a Norse-only goddess.

Blessed Ēostre is our goddess of the dawn and new life. Next month, we will celebrate Her day as the days finally become longer. Her name is still used throughout the world by Christians instead of Pascha, often without even knowing it - a bit like the days of the week!

The Sceadugenga is a Shadow Walker, a beast like the fearsome Grendel from the tale of Beowulf. Many Fyrnsidere enjoy crafting stories, myths and poetry using the historical material as inspiration, like this one by our own Hrēodbēorht.

Hreða (Hrethe/Hretha) is the goddess associated with victory; this could mean victory in battle or victory of spring over winter. The month of Hreðmonaþ (March) is named after her. The Spring Equinox will generally fall within her month.

The Fuþorc Runes. What in Wōden's name are they? What are they for? How do we use them today?

There's a nice entry on the runes over at the Silver Well Hearth blog of Hrēodbēorht's, which you can find here: seolforcwyllaheorth.wordpress.com/the-futhorc/

Thur, also known as Thunor/Þunor, is the god of thunder. With his mighty hammer, he defeats the ettins. He is the protector of our world and of mankind and is generally viewed as the god whose strength cannot be matched. Today was named for him, blessed Þunresdæg!
