Next door (adjacent by 100s of acres) is the rather infamous Mt Weather facility - a once top secret facility. Purportedly the location the POTUS would be spirited to should the threat to DC be so severe. Liz won numerous awards with her horses % HOF'er Charlie Whittingham ran her California stable

Liz, a beauty of the roaring 20's, would be a truly significant race horse owner & breeder. She also invited the most noted TB jockey ever, Eddie Arcaro, to try jumps at the estate🤪 It had been 4,000 acres under Liz but shrank by a quarter the time she died Oct 30, 1988. vault.si.com/vault/1958/0...

Listed Nat'l Reg Hist Places 2017. Property taxes $256,703 in 2009 & have dropped to $42,927 in 2025 with land in-use status. In 2019 it was listed for $34M. Mary Elizabeth Altemus Person Lunn Whitney Tippett, who was married (4X times) to John Hay "Jock" Whitney - kept it in their 1940 divorce

This was our nice cottage rented for five days on the edge of Amboise, France. We had a catered chef one night, ordered in via uber eats (yes) another & went out for two dinners in Amboise.
