Just a friendly Wednesday afternoon reminder that submissions on the EU's proposal to roll back environmental laws can be made until 10 September ⬇️
The EU Commission has opened a call for evidence (closing on 10th September) that could roll back vital environmental laws – including the #EUDR – which is key to tackling global deforestation.

Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the Ukraine invasion.

Yet efforts to enforce sanctions on Russian timber have been patchy, failing to result in proper penalties & emboldening launderers.

Urgent action must be taken to extend and enforce sanctions. 🔗 bit.ly/4aqVB1U

😮‍💨Finally exhaling this morning after EU policymakers agreed to drop highly damaging amendments to the #EUDR last night. The law's application date will be delayed by 12 months. The focus must now be on implementation, not further attempts to weaken this important deforestation law.
Last night, the EU Parliament, Commission & Council agreed to abandon amendments proposed by the @eppgroup.bsky.social that would have weakened the landmark #EUDR.

Instead, the EPP settled for a vaguely worded political declaration that isn't legally binding. www.earthsight.org.uk/news/amendme...
