2/2 She also has a specially-grooved tyre on the front. On the rear (outer) is a steel-studden tyre (and a spare on the hull side). the inner tyre at the back appears to be a standard sand tyre with cirumferential grooves.

2/2 Tests continued without the shoes on and in the final images two can be seen lying around.

The Semple tank armour was maganese steel plating with a mild steel welded body underneath.

The story of the Semple tank is a really good one and the vehicle is rather better than people imagine. It would certainly have been an unpleasant surprise for any Japanese force raiding ashore.

The discussion over the choice to seize Malta or not is interesting. To me it seems like a strategic blunder to not take Malta to secure their supply lines and deny it to the British for ships and planes. I wonder if they revisited this choice later to reflect on whether it was the right one or not.

3/3 He spent a month in hospital as a result. Recovery of the tank meant lowering the wreck down the remaining 90 m down the mountain to the road below where she was recovered in a process which took 4 days. The repair cost 6,000 rupees (£450).

2/3 The impact threw the turret 4.5 m away. These poor images show the aftermath of the recovery and where it left the road. The driver (Pte. Robbins was uninjured, although the Cmdr. L/Cpl. Burgess was thrown over 15 m and was found unconscious with severe concussion.
