Only when the EU changed its strategy towards ‘shared leadership’, ‘climate diplomacy’ & ‘orchestration’ was it able to regain its influence & reinvent its normative power for the age of the ‘planetary organic crisis’.

I argue that the EU ran into problems because it focused too long on policies in line with justice as impartiality & neglected mutual recognition/non-domination. By strengthening binding mitigation provisions & ‘leading by example’, it failed to recognize alternative pathways towards climate action
