Thimblefist has a lot of relatives living outside my home, and they eat the bird seed remnants that fall to the ground. As well as all the crocus bulbs someone provides them . . .

When I see a form of protest like that (taking a knee, burning a flag) my first question is, "Why? What are they protesting?" Because the motivation is key.

My physics degrees taught me the value of science in everyday life--especially health care. Our American global scientific preeminence is being willfully destroyed as we watch, and our health care as well. We will soon be worse off than most other countries, and it's our own doing.

I am an American. Daughter of immigrants, I served 30 years in the US Navy. Oaths meant something to us; I grind teeth to see how current politicians ignore them.

Navy service showed me how much we need coalitions and international support. We won't have those, because of our politicians ...

Yes, I call it a "well-trained forgettery." It calls for me to forget the embarrassing moments I see. When students used this as an excuse for exam mistakes, I told them that was a "poorly-trained forgettery."
