Education, research and advocacy for musicians.
This is what all in pricing with itemization looks like in practice. This is what musicians have been fighting for federally and in the states, despite the opposition of Ticketmaster, StubHub, Vivid Seats, and other predatory resellers and their proxies.

The incuriosity of a particular kind of pundit.

The FTC‘s new suit against Ticketmaster shows that Ticketmaster tested more transparent forms of all in pricing, but realized they would make less money, and that’s why they only support weak all in pricing rules, like what’s required by the TICKET Act.

The local paper in Portland Maine had their art/architecture critic review the proposed Live Nation venue.

For example, the complaint includes an email from Ticketmaster to a broker, basically saying that one broker purchasing with multiple fictitious user accounts is fine with Ticketmaster(?).

Testimony from last night’s City Council hearing in Portland, Maine where the music community successfully pushed to pause a planned Live Nation development project.

Awesome to see @linamkhan.bsky.social recognize musicians in her @nytimesoped.bsky.social opinion piece as an example of small businesses under threat from consolidation and extractive business models.

DC is so lucky to have the Fort Reno concert series. Free shows in the park every summer since 1968. What’s happening in your town?

A big victory for musicians and songwriters and a big loss for AI firms who wanted to stay unregulated.

Another loss for Chamber of Progress, (who in addition to arguing for big tech's right to use your music to train AI without consent or compensation have tried to kill pro-artist and pro-fan ticketing reforms). They wanted Maine's governor to veto LD913 but she refused!
June 19, 2025 at 9:43 PM
In a meaningful victory for independent venues, artists, consumers, and arts nonprofits, Maine Governor Janet Mills has signed LD 913, which bans speculative tickets, caps resale fees at 10%, and bans resellers from using deceptive URLs that trick ticketbuyers into paying too much!

New York is considering a tough ticketing consumer protection bill, so of course the predatory resale industry has deployed their army of proxies including Diana Moss of PPI to try and mislead lawmakers. It’s good to see @jamesskoufis.bsky.social call it out directly.

Here’s how the FTC unfortunately bungled the junk fee rule by siding with Ticketmaster and StubHub over artists.

Two events, same venue and price. One before the rule went into effect and one after. By failing to require upfront itemization, FTC lets companies to hide how much of 🎟️ price is fees.

Ticketmaster added this dialog box to its resale tix for sold out shows. It’s a welcome clarification but funny that it doesn’t mention that Ticketmaster also charges a second round of fees for tickets resold above face value.

Pope Francis was a serious record collector. Among his favorites: Arvo Part, Bach’s Passions, Astor Piazzola’s Argentinian tango.

It's infuriating to watch Ticketmaster and predatory resellers (like Stubhub, Vivid Seats, SeatGeek and brokers who use those sites) point the finger at each other to try and avoid accountability. Luckily, more officials and policymakers are understanding we can take on both.

We joined an array of music creator groups & allies in calling for changes to the TICKET Act ahead of an expected markup. The current text just isn't good enough to protect fans and artists.

Key passage here argues that caps on resale are good for consumers.

In discussions about royalty fairness, artists are often asking: how many listeners does an artist have to reach to make meaningful $?

But Spotify keeps trying to change the subject to how many artists are on the platform and overall growth in payouts.

The solution to ticket fees being too high is not simply to hide how much of the ticket price consists of fees.

Today is Lina Khan's last day as FTC chair. Many of us in the music community supported her confirmation back in 2021--not something that usually happens for an FTC commissioner! And we're proud to have done so and grateful for her service.
