I’ve gotten Howell off of the waivers in a few leagues this season and I’ve acquired him for a 4th rounder in a few others this season. Definitely someone I’m trying to buy in every SF league I’m in.

This has Howell as the perfect offseason stash in all SF leagues.

A QB who is young (24 years old) and has proven he can put up respectable numbers if given the chance. A new coaching staff who traded decent capital to acquire. A QB who could be cut due to his contract.

Normally I wouldn’t say a 34 year old QB who is leading his team to the playoffs would potentially be pushed out as the starter at the end of the season but Geno has something else that might make the decision moving on from him easier. Seattle could save 25 million if they cut Smith this offseason.

Geno smith in the 2024-2025 season has posted 3,241 yards (3rd in the NFL) but only 13 TDs and 12 INTs. Though Seattle would technically be in the playoffs as of now at 7-5, they’d be out if their division wasn’t on the downside this season.

Washington ended up with a top pick and Howell was immediately traded to Seattle and a few picks for a 3rd rounder and a 5th rounder. The interesting part about this was Seattle had a QB they just signed to an extension the previous year but a new coaching staff just took over.

Started all games for the 2023-2024 with Washington and posted 3,946 yards and 21 TDs and 21 INTs. He had some incredible games (Week 8 against the Eagles) and some horrible games (week 3 against the Bills) but overall did well in terms of NFL standards for where he was drafted (5th round in 2022).
