There currently is no cure for asthma but controlled medications have dramatically reduced the need &/or frequent use of rescue medications. 💗

More research needs to be done to understand the complexity of the disease, how triggers modify medication responses, & so much more.

Asthma is a life-threatening condition if left untreated but can be managed.

Rescue medications help reverse the immediate symptoms of asthma flares. However, as it is a chronic disease, symptoms will return.

Now imagine the straw has a thick sticky coating inside… when u look thru it’s narrow & has a tight string wrapped around it, enclosing that air space even more. When you try to blow through, it takes a lot of force to get air thru. This is how it feels to breathe w/ asthma.

What’s it like to breathe with asthmatic lungs?

Imagine your airway is like a big boba straw… when you look through it, you can easily see to the other side & when you blow through it there is plentyyyyy of space for the air to fly through. That’s a healthy airway.

Ppl w/ asthma tend to have “triggers” that cause attacks or flares. Triggers vary depending on the type of asthma (allergic vs non-allergic), person, & nature of the trigger (allergen in the air/food, exercise, etc). While it may be difficult, it’s important to understand your asthma triggers.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that impacts 100s of millions of ppl worldwide 🤯

It is characterized by inflammation in the airways (aka narrowing of air space), tightening of the muscles that surround the airways, & excessive mucous… which makes it very difficult to breathe. 🫁
