Though also since Republicans largely choked in downballot races (Pennsylvania being the exception thanks to a zero-effort Dem campaign) I think the bigger factor is that a lot of people just like Trump specfically and also Kamala kind of sucked

It is true that dems lost a bunch of votes but republicans also got more votes than in 2020. If you assume that there are no new voters (which isn’t a good assumption) about half of the votes democrats lost went to republicans while the others stayed home.

Okay that’s true, I meant the more tankie types but there’s also signficant numbers of people who are in another circlejerk and will never *not* vote Dem. My point is this is not a significant political faultline
