I have a slightly different approach which may end up being the same: if these people are de facto out of reach of the law then they should be considered guilty until proven innocent.

The core issue here is the lack of any accountability and the complete inability of the US justice system to correctly prosecute such cases. Without accountability, where should rational people dial the conspiracy needle? Some people go too far, certainly, but many don't go far enough, certainly.

I also prefer the native resolution but with a good CRT shader for max comfy.

So do I but I think both FF8 and FF2 suffer from having an insane ambition that the tech of the time couldn't really handle. If there's one FF that I think could really shine in a full remake, it's FF8. The junction and crafting systems have huge potential if you fix the UI.

Oh and my profile picture is the FF2 Wyvern in its original incarnation. It looks so goofy. I love it.

The best way I can describe my feelings about Final Fantasy 2 is that it's to Final Fantasy 1 what Final Fantasy 8 is to Final Fantasy 7.

In this 4 hour Youtube video essay I will...

The "faceless" party is certainly a step back, but I enjoy the rest of the game a lot more than II overall. The puzzle aspect of the job system is simple but very enjoyable to me.

The original version of II is significantly harder than the remakes because the progression system is even more stunted, easily the hardest FF to play blind IMO. The cast being underdeveloped a bit harsh given that it's a game from 1988. The story telling is impressive for the time IMO.

With online patches, always online and whatnot, it's not like having a physical copy means that you really "own" much of your games these days. The path to preservation for anything these days is piracy and emulation, not CDs and cartridges IMO. Own your ROMs!

It's really fun! Great performances. Rosanna Arquette is particularly memorable, and James Spader is always a treat.

I have a similar relationship with the first Rayman game...

What I find interesting on a meta level is that, if a work of art is truly super-influential, shouldn't it sound mundane in hindsight? The early work of e.g. Kraftwerk or Jean Michel Jarre fits that bill in my opinion. It feels almost simplistic nowadays, and then you remember that it's 50+yo.

Judging from the thumbnail alone, isn't it just some basic content bait? "Person not part of group X tells people of group X that the thing they like is good" is a good way to drive engagement. There's also a tendency to mythologize these influential works of popular art beyond the reasonable.
