artists can make informative graphics for the community on everything from community fun to community safety. writers can do everything from writing those graphics, to writing up the news, to just being plain entertaining.

people from farm workers to hobbiest gardeners can instruct us on how to do some good old urban farming and gardening to make that food we'll need!

line cooks and other food prep workers can teach our communities how to prepare food en-masse. this allows us to feed large numbers of people in need quickly and efficiently.

This may sound small, but it is the difference between someone who's been sleeping on the street being able to make it across town for a job interview or to access government assistance or not.

but these experts-these guides-share their expertise, and without any forceful compulsion better their community as a whole. not only are people directly in the mutual aid community learning from these guides, but the larger community of the city is benefiting.

so first off, in the human's local mutual aid group there is a team that offers free bicycle repairs for anyone on a twice weekly basis. they also host "bike church" for teaching people how to do these repairs and help the team. no one is required to attend...

someone in the comments of the video suggested using the word guide in place of leader. i really like that! anarchism does not need the leadership of bosses, but the leadership of guides! let's talk about some really simple examples that anyone could do.

you've all probably had a boss in the past who doled out orders that were completely incompatible with the on the ground reality. you've probably also had someone at work who's actions reflect their expertise and who's direction helps everyone accomplish their goals!

Andrew of course reminds us that possessing expertise and guiding people who agree to follow you is vastly different than demanding you be followed on the dubious virtue of authority alone. We've talked about this a little bit in the past...

did you do your homework? give it a watch? good because we are diving in. so the video quickly brings up the tension between the idea of leadership (with it's connotations of authority) and anarchism (with it's absolute opposition to all authority). how do we reconcile this?
