Measuring marine phytoplankton quotas is tough due to low signals and complex matrices, but new methods are rising! At @bigelowlab.bsky.social with Ben Twining and Jarret Mayo, we developed a spICPMS approach, detecting P, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn in 100s of cells/min using optimised fixatives and buffers.

A huge thank you to the organizing team and sponsors of this year's Southampton Imaging Conference "Light on life: illuminating all things big and small". It was great to see such a spread in disciplines combining imaging techniques from medicine, evolutionary biology, coral calcification, and AI!

DY172 NPoP has been an incredible experience! Leaving Cape Town, we sailed more than 5000 nautical miles across the Southern Ocean and into the South Atlantic gyre before reaching Walvis Bay. It's been amazing to work with such brilliant scientists and crew.
