Been investing lately on buying tiny games to play on my spare time and I've been a lot more cerebral in how they work, what makes them enjoyable, what improvements could be made. It's a good exercise that I haven't done in a while.

Some people are scared of participating in game jams.
Common reason: They think they don't know enough about gamedev.
But participating is the best way to learn!
In some game jams you'll make a nice game. But you almost always learn something. Regardless of which, it's a great success!
