A friend from grad school got complaints about his unintelligible accent regularly. He was a native English speaker, just not from the US. He was perfectly intelligible, just not white.
My fave was the time TA who was born and raised in the US was accused of having an unintelligible foreign accent.

Research has shown that people consistently underestimate how much women talk vs men in mixed-gender groups (e.g. pure.mpg.de/rest/items/i...) and I would be SO not surprised if the same thing happened in convos between white people and people of color.

Usually if I'm renting an airbnb it is because of something like
- there are no hotels in the neighborhood I want to be in
- I want access to a kitchen and there are no hotels with kitchenettes around
- I'm staying for 2+ weeks and a hotel would cost WAY more

I also totally unrelated to the current climate took up water aerobics and it turns out that most of the audience for that is fat and/or old. I like getting to hang out in a pool with a buncha fatties weekly and I got over being seen in a swimsuit REAL fast.

NOT FANTASTIC TBH. I feel like everything's just backsliding into the 90s and as a society we've decided that we have GLP-1s now so we don't need fat acceptance anymore.
I mercifully found a HAES GP so I'm not getting GLP1s pushed on me at the doctor's office nonstop.

A lot of media marketed as "cozy" makes me incoherently angry for reasons I can't entirely put my finger on. I would love to see a video about it because a lot of times seeing a bunch of analysis on a topic helps me work out my superficially-odd emotional response to that topic.

People can get a bit... odd about any kind of nuanced take on AI.
Like, I think some of the underlying technology is interesting and potentially useful but that the execution as it is now is basically maximally bad and there are people who think THAT is glazing AI.

I friggin love Gambit, I played so much Gambit. I spent so much of my life yelling incoherently at newbies who could not hear me because they were running around killing dudes while carrying 15 motes.

I played The Final Shape but quit after I saw the final cutscene because every time the people I played with wanted to do something I had to be like "I don't have that dungeon" which is fucked up.

And there's minimal actual new content in a season it's just reskinned activities, but if you want to do anything with your friends you still need the season pass because activities disappear seasonally and that reskinned activity is what everyone is playing now.

This is basically my relationship with D2.
The guns are fun! A lot of the missions and activities are fun! It's just extremely fun to shoot things with your silly space-magic guns!
It's just that also you pay $60 for a game and then you also have to pay $40 per expansion plus $20 per season pass.

That said on some level it *doesn't fucking matter* because they've sunset 3/4 of the plot and all they do is rotate through the same suite of 8 or so activities with different skins every season. You're just paying so you can get specific exotic gear so people won't yell at you in raids.

I played Destiny 2 pretty intensely through the end of Witch Queen (or, as intensely as you can without ever raiding because I CANNOT with raid people) and I still have no damn idea what stuff is even still available or what that collection contains.

Also calling it "AI" is stupid, like, at a technology level. GPTs, and LLMs in general, are very interesting technologies with some surprising capabilities but they are not, in fact, intelligent in the sense 99% of people mean when they say intelligence.

Basically everything I hate about AI (e.g. MOST OF IT, including and especially the environmental bits) is the way it is because some venture capitalist and/or startup founder thinks it's the fastest way to make a billion dollars.

I would like the AI to help manage my calendar because I have ADHD. Instead what it does is do a shit job replacing the stuff I want to be spending my time on instead of managing my calendar.

So far we've seen four that I recall: Xenomorph, eyeball octopus, ceiling plantimal, and blood slug. I don't think the fifth one has come up yet, really?
