Though many games today are undoubtedly terribly unoptimised, i'd blame the fetishisation of "HYPER REALISTIC YOU CAN SEE EVERY PIECE OF DANDRUF ON OUR MEDIOCRE PLAYER CHARACTERS HEAD" type graphics. Why can't big publishers understand that gameplay and story are more important?
