Yep, same train of thought here! It sounded silly to have more stuff to collect/do if you play on Steam than if you bought the game on itch.io for instance.

Well now it's been almost 8 years since work started on Knight George, but hey, there's been two other big games released in the mean time!

This was the first project I (@linky439.bsky.social) did with GameBoy-styled limitations, and I liked it so much it eventually became the foundations of Knight George.

I remember it was a breath of fresh air back then, as I was already 2 years in a big fangame project at the time.

Other stuff got changed, such as the Flail displayed at then end of the video which now became a more traditional weapon.

But the idea of 3 spiky balls turning around the player to protect them also got carried over to another project, HooperVania, with the Koopa Flails...

Of course, all of them got new sprites (George was a bit chunkier back then) and some got redesigned, such as Prince Philip.

Several things got carried over to what is now a "reboot" of the game: all the characters, but also the core of the gamplay even if I changed it back to a more traditional A-RPG.

Some items, magic spells, enemies and bosses from this old version also found their way into the current game!

Thanks! I like it too, it gives the player a choice, it reminds me of the GBC days and there's also an auto-palette feature that changes the palette for each location to try and match the vibes of the place you are currently visiting! :)
