#Chlorophyllum molybdites are starting to appear in decent numbers. This #mushroom is likely the number one cause of mushroom poisoning in North America. Beautiful, but a hard pass.

Happy #fungifriday! Here are some #Agaricus xanthodermus that I spotted in a lawn. These yellow-staining Agaricus are in the same genus as your average store bought portobello/crimini/button, but are poisonous if ingested.

Upon finding a bunch more #Panaeolus cinctulus, I managed to spot a few #Panaeolopsis! These are very similar, but the cap margin hugs the stem and the latter has more resilient stems. Both of these #mushrooms are psychedelic in #nature.

Another #MushroomMonday, full of surprises. Spotted a couple hundred #Panaeolus cinctulus today. They are mildly psychoactive, and rather common this time of year.

#Xylocopa varipuncta. This is a male valley Carpenter bee, also called a teddy bear bee. It lacks a stinger, has bright green eyes, and is known to puncture flowers at the base to steal the nectar.
I love these fuzzy large guys!

I finally managed to try Artocarpus integer fruit (Cempedak). It is very similar to Jackfruit, but has a creamy banana & jackfruit flavor, with a funky note like Durian or a stinky cheese. I can't recommend it enough, so good!

#Jadera haematoloma, the Red-Shouldered Bug. The Latin Haema in the name actually comes from Greek and is a reference to their Blood-like coloration. These bugs are known to feed on seeds of the soapberry family.

#Cornus capitata, the Strawberry #Dogwood. Native to many places in Asia, and an uncommon landscaping plant in the US. I have yet to try this edible fruit, but I have heard it is bitter.

The fruit starts green and slowly fades into yellow, and eventually red as it ripens. Strange geometrical cell patterns adorn the outside, giving this fruit a mysterious appearance.

#Laetiporus gilbertsonii, the Western Hardwood Sulphur Shelf, or Chicken Of The Woods. This common edible mushroom often kills the tree, and this tree later fell and crushed a car.

Morchella rufobrunnea found in garden soil, held in my hand to show its relative size. The red bruising on the top of the mushroom is normal for this species.

This is #Caulorhiza umbonata, the Redwood Rooter. Its taproot can extend many feet into the ground. It is not uncommon to find one as long as your arm!

Something close to if not #Inocybe fraudans. This one smells of rotting pears with a hint of cinnamon, and stains pink. I kept a few of these dried for later study.

#Ilex #guayusa spotted in #Colombia. This plant is known and used for its #caffeine content, much like green #tea or Yerba Maté. It has very high levels of #antioxidants and #polyphenols as well, making it a very healthy caffeine source to consume.
