And to be fair, I appreciate the same in return. I want to feel understood and considered, and a genuine apology even from someone who didn't mean to hurt me soothes the pain.

Slippery slope and too easy to be "Well, I didn't mean it _that_ way." I'm easy with apologies in my personal life. Professional life, I have to be a bit more reserved saying "Thank you for letting me know" vs "I'm sorry" but with friends? No problem, I'm sorry when I hurt them no matter the intent.

This did give me an idea tho! Perhaps we can have rotating holiday themes, like our cookbooks. And make the cookbooks the center pieces. Look how cute!

Oh this is horrifying. The one with fresh context + read md. I discarded all the changes and now I'm trying with the old full-context window, so we can compare!

Now I didn't say "Best practices UI/UX" this time around. I usually do to get me the designs I love, like dbatools.io and mutesky.app.

Ohh I didn't see it! I use the Brave Browser and it must block by default

It was 5 for me but that actually gives me a lot of confidence in Kagi's results. They also linked a frikken Tripod site!! Haven't seen that in years, and we should. Love Gumbo Gator's throwback designs. Loads fast, has real, no frills Cajun recipes.

Overall, I'm looking forward to the site being more "ours".

Theming it on our terms, adding the exact functionality we want with little to no barriers.

Can't wait to see what it'll look like! Our initial thoughts are a modern retro feel, like the folksy 2002 site, freshly updated 🌶️🦞🚀

I'm a WP plugin author and even had Matt Mullenweg over at my house for gumbo/Microsoft party back around 2006. Still got the SQL Server swag and good memories from that.

And still, I admit that the whole WordPress ecosystem is/was torture.
November 15, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Now the site will be secure. No more sleepless nights worrying if this will be the week I'll have to SURPRISE! Spend 4 days recovering from a hack and updating the whole system and the WordPress base and the plugins.

And it'll be so fast, we won't need AMP. THAT was expensive. And ugly.
November 15, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Can't wait till Brandon wakes up and I can show him the site! It's felt inaccessible to him since the 2014 WordPress migration because there were had SO many plugins to manage the advanced content types and the AMP and the this and the that.

A total nightmare AND we've been hacked countless times.

(I even asked claude to install gh cli, because I had no idea which version of Linux my throwaway VPS is running and don't want to figure out its package system.

That was the first time I vibed Linux hobby administration in-depth and I *loved* it.)

So I've exported all of our recipes and I'm redoing the website in Hugo. And I'm going to do AI SEO galore.

(As an aside, omg, I logged into my VPS, installed claude and had it do all of my exporting! I didn't have to relearn WP CLI. I didn't have to figure out the sql schema or how even to login.)

TURNS OUT! AI SEO is exactly what I've been thinking Google rankings should be and used to be.

AI works by making connections between words. They value authority. They value authenticity. It's not all about fake ass backlink farms and keyword stuffing.
November 15, 2025 at 9:23 AM
And eventually, Google was like "you need to PACK in keywords and tell 4 page long stories!! Keep them on site FOREVER!"

And we're like fuck no! We're not going into invent long, dumbass stories and piss people off when all they want is a beignet recipe.
November 15, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Google should be smarter and see that a LeMaire and an Abshire run this site and have since 2002 and we don't need to add a new recipe with a fake 32nd gumbo variation to ensure our site is "fresh".

It's a Cajun recipe site, there's a finite number of recipes and 1500 is already too much.
November 15, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Our site should be the #1 Cajun recipes website and it used to be in 2009. We're Cajuns from Vermilion Parish, Cajuns use our website and love it. We offer not just Cajun recipes but insights into our culture.

Fake ass corporate sites took over bc they all pay for black hat SEO and we refuse.

The old session has the details of our discussion (which it wrote down to markdown) while the new session has the context available to be an exceptional designer.

I'm... creating a new session 🤩🚀

Just add this line to ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md:

"You are explicitly forbidden from using the 'explore' subagent."

You will thank me later.
