Up against oligarchy, all we have is the power latent in our capacity to unite - Naomi Klein
Out of step with the world - Minor Threat
It is clear that Columbus Day was created by Italian Americans trying to claim whiteness in the face of a very racist 1930s US. I had delicious gluten free waffles for breakfast.

The world is on fire. The country is slowly tipping into darkness. Today I had some time to kill before my flight home, I went on a pilgrimage to the porch that launched a million punks.

On the edge of the gathering storm. Walked until my mind got a little quieter. It was a long walk.

Sundays are for a dawn walk along a frozen beach, a book that you need to wrestle with and a cup of strong eggnog chai. And maybe a nap.

Back from the beach. I will find solace in the frozen places, with the restless ocean and uncluttered horizon. Respite from a sleep that is troubled by time's incessant march towards 1.20.25

Boss: What took you so long?
Me: It's that season, the volume is absurd.
Truth? One of my customers got a new puppy. I mean, how can you leave that face?

Mustering energy to cook dinner. Oatmeal cookie chai and Rites of Spring.

This beautiful old lady is giving me lessons on how to enjoy a cold windy day. She is snoring loudly. Now spinning Sol Gabetta's Prayer.

It was a windy walk along the beach today. Now to Sunday with purpose. Strong coffee, Miles Davis and a good book.

Standing in the rain, stunned into revery by this tree. The lonely ache of the swing, long forgotten by children who no longer play in the yard. As the world splinters and fractures, I'll make sure to notice beauty. Even when taking it in means standing in a cold rain.

Liminal space. The full moon setting in front of me, the sun rising at my back. The air is late fall warm, the wind has the early winter sharpness of puppy teeth. I am standing between a glimpse of something better and a promise of something awful.

Reading Doppelganger, I love Naomi Klein's reminder "Gather together, find your footing and your story." So many hopes of a different future, just leaves on the first floor. Winter comes, time to gather your people.

There was much confusion about why I wasn't petting her, I was clearly not doing anything else important. Out trying to activate the union membership today. The grievance process is a daily tool necessary for holding management in check.

Staring at the moon, listening to The Shape of Punk to Come tribute album. I will let the rage carry me into action.

And, poof, the leaves are gone. The summer that seemed to linger longer than expected is fading into the rearview. Winter comes. There is a quiet desperation that permeates my mood as we wander off into the unknown, the cold and the dark.

Upside down and hollowed out. It's so important to engage with art as I gather to face the coming fight. Picked up The Rievers by Faulkner. Listening to Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle and Sol Gabetta.
