It is a surprising color to pop out! So the blue side must be what's getting bleached away?
Also I swear my quink is getting bluer as time goes on. I looked at an old swatch and the black part looked warmer than this one! Maybe I should shake the bottle more often...

It's watered down! My bleach is really gloopy and strong. (Not sure if type makes a difference since I just grabbed what I had.) 🙈 I use the same water brushes for both the painting and bleach, but no problems with their synthetic bristles so far.
And ye earl grey separates especially beautifully!!

Glad to help!! And thank you too! It's exciting to finally be at a skill level where I can paint (most of) what I want.
I hope you find a paper you like and have fun with your future ink paintings. ^_^

I used wood pulp papers like Canson and Strathmore 400 for years and they worked better for pieces without backgrounds; big washes looked uneven and layers lifted the color underneath.

This Fabriano strikes a nice balance of price and quality. It comes in hot press too if you like smooth papers!

Cotton helps the ink spread smoothly and the 300gsm weight will stop the paper from buckling.

Arches brand is great + 100% cotton but expensive. Baohong is just as good and cheaper if you can get it. Strathmore's mixed media visual journal is thin so it wrinkles, yet surprisingly decent...

Sure! I like talking about techniques and supplies lol. I'm using Fabriano Studio watercolor paper (25% cotton, cold press, 300gsm) for these.

I looked at your paintings and think watercolor paper with some cotton and 300gsm might fit your style too...

Thanks a lot! ^^ It's less predictable than the mediums I usually use, but that makes for a fun challenge (with some cool surprises too)!

I already shared this on tumblr but now seems like a good time to show how I paint with fountain pen ink + regular household bleach. With different amounts of water and/or bleach, I can change which colors appear!

This is really beautiful! The misty atmosphere is amazing!
