Funny story: one of my sports heroes was nearby, and a friend who knew him told me to go in and introduce myself. I did, and I asked for a picture. He was happy to do it. For Christmas that year, my friend who took the picture had it blown up into an 8x10 and had him sign it for me! It was nice!

Lots of compromise on your part.

I get it for historical figures, before photographs existed, but for myself, I would much rather have a picture taken with the person than their autograph.
