Republicans are in the majority and, unfortunately, are beholden to a President which the majority of American voters preferred to have there (as opposed to prison, which is likely where he would be right now if Harris had won).

The admin would gladly let SNAP starve and planes start crashing.

SNAP is getting funded, that was the big "win" here (beyond hiring back federal workers, and perhaps avoided some terrible aviation tragedy that appears to have been on the path to inevitable).

I was a "hold" guy but there is a contrary take worth reading. www.facebook.com/david.cooper...

I was too, but there's a contrary take worth reading. Not sure it fully brings me around - but dealing with an admin that has unbounded willingness to let innocents suffer (SNAP funding, and even going up on appeal to "block" it) not sure what the end game here was.

It's unbearable. However, if you want a contrary view there's this (I still think the Dems should have held out longer, but at least there's a non-ridiculous take on this - and clearly it's not coming from Shaheen).

I assume the Supreme Court will note that the tariffs are refundable but only to parties which directly sue for them (and courts will stand in the way of any class actions that would allow for collective relief).

Message to the admin.

The "barest" of concessions would have been to tell Thune he has to get Johnson to agree to take up the bill. That way we could genuinely hang out more Republicans for being opposed.

Do you think most voters will see rates double and be like, "well, the Dems tried". Now they know it was theater.

Listen to Bernie - the issue is that 100 Senators could vote for the Dem bill in the Senate but the House (through Speaker Johnson) has not agreed to take up the bill. So, in the Senate, they'll be a vote and even some Republicans (think Collins) get a freebie to vote yes and look better. Total fail

Do you have some kind of beef with Angus?

But yes, he blew it - although he's consistently been voting to reopen on "each" of the 14 prior attempts.

Her commitment to an outcome that absolutely requires the bill - "if" passed by the Senate - be taken up in the House (where Speaker Johnson "today" is vocally flagging that he isn't even agreeing to have it considered) - is somewhat suspect.

As Bernie noted it's an easy "Yes" vote for some Republican Senators who can rest easy knowing that it won't come to the floor of the House.

Just gave them a chance to burnish their image but with no upside to Dems or those relying on the ACA.

The base showed up for their job last week - consider doing likewise. A promise for a "vote" on ACA extension is far from what we all are expecting from the longest shutdown in U.S. history.

Enable this regime, give up easily after a long hard fight, and demoralize the base. It's as easy as that.

Totally cheesy and, worth noting, he also added those atrocious frames too.

Ok, ok, I think I figured out what one of my wishes will be if a genie grants three. I'd love to be able to pull that off. Amazing.
