Attorney in San Francisco, Healdsburg, CA
Pt. 4

It would seem to me that in order to put words into action, such an organization is sorely needed at this time. I respect your work very much and would like to assist in your call up as much as I can, but I just don’t have the credentials.

Pt. 3

Moreover, it is also my opinion that such individuals would only trust the advice from one of their own. Given your background, do you know of any organization that would fit that potential need?

Pt. 2

Obviously, such individuals would need access to competent legal counsel and the only competent legal counsel in my opinion would be former JAGs sympathetic to their situations.

Pt. 1

I am a lawyer, but I don’t have any connections with former JAG officers. I read your article from the Atlantic outlining the civil-military crisis that has arrived and a call to support members of the military who may face the prospect of having to follow unconstitutional orders.

Oh, Maybellene, why can't you be true?

You just started doing the things you used to do

Having an artist of your stature respond to a fan’s message is wonderful. I hold you in the same esteem as John Lennon. You’re also a modern Ry Cooder-type musicologist except the genres you mine are more modern. You synthesize the best of Beatles/Stones/Who and garage, krautrock, Joy Division, etc💙

I missed it. I came late to the BJM party. I was raising kids in SF in your heyday. First saw BJM by flying to Solano Beach at the Belly Up in 2016. I flew there because your show in SF conflicted with The Who. BJM live blew me away. I’ve seen BJM every SF residency since. Thank you for all you do.

BJM should be playing Fox Theater in Oakland. That place would showcase your psychedelic vibe so well with the weird Buddha overlooking the festivities. I’m halfway through Joel’s book and the encounter about you taking him to the Mission to get a righteous tambourine is priceless.

I know, but it’s damn funny, particularly Bill taking offense at your band’s name despite the fact that the Fillmore is located right next to the former Jonestown Temple. The fact BJM was playing two consecutive nights at his premier venue after telling you it never would was just perfect karma.

So happy to hear you’re back on the road. I hope you bring the band back to San Francisco soon. Saw you both nights at the Fillmore. Loved the FU Bill Graham story you recounted on stage.

Yes. Next time, don’t forget your firearms so that the cops can blow your fucking heads off. Carry on.

Very well written. Best line: “Remember, it’s not the strongest who survive, it’s the most adaptable.”

So true. It’s worthy keeping in touch with like minded expats in Portugal. I’m not an expat yet but may be forced to sooner depending on what happens 11/5. I’ve got adult kids in California just starting their lives and a wife who is reluctant to leave. So I visit a lot now to tread a path.

Évora food is amazing and the wine in the Alentejo is top notch and relatively inexpensive. Portugal has the memory of Salazar fresh in the citizenry’s minds so I don’t think it’ll take hold like it has in the US. They don’t have the legacy of our Civil War and the “Lost Cause” fallacy.
October 15, 2024 at 9:22 AM
Thanks. I will. I’m in the process of doing what you’ve done in Portugal myself. I just had a conversation with a Brasileira expat who informed me that Qanon took root here. I was walking in old town Évora last week and witnessed what appeared to be an evangelical gathering carrying on ridiculously

Wow, really? What town? I’m in Sagres now. I’ve heard of Chega but Nazis?

Maybe the question should be “how many do you think will fight back”?
