I can't help but wonder whose interests this group is representing, since safety doesn't seem their primary concern?

Not sure how difficult it might be to gather the right data. I'm sure Tesla will have at least some of this data, but it's unlikely that they're sharing it, as they don't seem to participate or be involved anymore. If this continues we'll have Unsupervised self driving before we have Supervised FSD.

My own impression is that industry was trying to convey that the "antibody reaction" by regulators to introducing SIM was too strong, and they should allow it. Country representatives seemed like they wouldn't allow something without data that enables their understanding of how it influences drivers

There was also concern about how drivers might behave if they have hands-off and the system requires drivers to take over or intervene due to a situation that the system might not handle.

When asked specifically about "skill retention", they said they have data that shows that people's own parking skills get worse because they use auto-park features all the time, and are worried about similar things happening to general driving skills.

The same person shared the opinion that they shouldn't assume that anything new is dangerous.
Country representatives sounded like to be convinced they needed data to understand how advanced systems that blur the lines between driving assistance & self-driving were going to impact driver behaviour.

Some industry members present raised the fact that it's difficult to provide data for something that isn't allowed.
An ITU person from the US highlighted that most of the accidents in the US happened due to a *lack* of system manoeuvres where the system failed to manoeuvre where it should have.

Secretary was suggesting that those data points could be treated as examples of data that would reassure those who have raised concerns, and it wouldn't have to be exhaustive and suggested that similar data might also be ok.

It's very unlikely that they will allow an advanced self-system (with SIM) without data. So naturally some of the discussion was about how to acquire the data. From today's session it really sounded like this data was the major road-blocker (figuratively and literally 🙃)
