I somewhat struggle with the whole concept, starting with the idea of "spontaneous activity" during "offline periods (rest)".
The brain is _never_ offline, receiving & processing input (interoception, temperature, etc.) even during rest. So, how spontaneous can "spontaneous activity" really be?
