Maps where you’d rather not be the red country- WHO data shows the UK has high premature mortality, especially in CVD. Hanne Christensen flags that where countries spend more money on stroke care, they have better outcomes - and that advocacy for stroke is key. #ESOC2025

Brilliant statement by @nuffieldtrust.bsky.social, starting with recognizing the human cost associated with abolishing NHSE. I know so many brilliant and dedicated NHSE staff who work tirelessly for patient safety and improved outcomes

Professor Martin James wins the #UKSF2024 outstanding achievement award for all that he does to knit together the stroke community around quality improvement and all he does for stroke survivors. I can’t think of anyone more deserving - not only for all he brings to the stroke…

If you are not delivering a door to puncture time within an hour, then you’re not moving fast enough.

Average time from patient going through door to scan is 15mn. The Calgary team outlines their practical approaches below. ‘We are not tidy - sacrifice everything for speed’.

Dr. Michael Hill highlights just how impactful mechanical thrombectomy can be - if services can provide an MT quickly. Time and speed is the MOST IMPORTANT factor in getting great outcomes.

Great conversation and ideas from the UK stroke community today on the 10 year health plan #UKSF2024. You all have brilliant ideas so make sure you get your voice heard either on change.nhs.uk/en-GB/ AND/OR in any engagement events that happen in your area of work.

Hints of blue sky and sunshine as I review slides ahead of #UKSF24. Nothing like a quiet morning train to focus the mind.

If you’re attending the conference, come have your say on the 10 year health plan at our workshop tomorrow (11:30am) or just come say hello at the Stroke Association stand!

A VERY different era, working with one of my favorite mares, after being up all night saving her bebe. Horse nose kissing not recommended for physical health but definitely rec for mental health.

A beautiful autumnal day in London. Even with the chaos that is 3 kids starting a new school year, this is one of my favorite times of year - the change of the seasons, the promise of a new year draws me in even if my school days are long gone.

Anyone in London smell all the smoke this morning by the Thames? My run was hazy and smoky but can’t find anything reported in the news.

We weren’t far from you and doing our own scramble before heading back to London tomorrow. Absolutely GLORIOUS weather - ice cream a must after the long warm day 🍦

Another excellent long read from Nuffield. The implications around widening health inequalities and setting up a two tier system of healthcare are real and concerning. The whole article is worth the read but the following paragraphs capture the worry.

This is such a thoughtful and thought-provoking long read from @theasrstein.bsky.social on NHS productivity. I've seen incredibly outcomes from stroke teams that have the following principles woven into their ways of working, even in the face of huge system challenges.

Heather in bloom, sunshine (even rainbows!), bagging 4 new Wainwrights as a family - these are a few of my favorite things.

Love this picture- where were you? And am currently spending time staring at water too. Return to reality will be harsh.

Great review from @annetteboaz.bsky.social and team on the current evidence around improved health outcomes in research active organisations. Snippet below but the paper has a ton of valuable insights, including understanding the 'dose effect' of research engagement and outcomes in healthcare.

I’ve been living off of the high of this morning’s sunrise all day. There’s definitely something to be said for a gorgeous morning setting intentions for a better workday.

A great resource from the other place on clinical trial methodology - had totally missed it but worth a look if that's an interest of yours! (101 reasons why i'm reluctant to just delete my Twitter account - i know, i know) x.com/MarionKCampb...

There are moments that just make you catch your breath at its perfection. Yesterday was one of those ‘death by a thousand papercuts’ kind of day - and then, we got to see the Lakeland Festival of Lights and life was magical again.

Final survey of public perceptions of NHS under conservative Government. Public confidence in the NHS continues to deteriorate. Clear priorities on what people would like to see New Gov focus on.

Didn’t expect #UKSF23 to start with singing at 10:30am - great way to lift spirits on a rainy Monday morning with @singingmed. Check out their great work to help stroke patients find their voice again.

The way to fairer care? #CQC suggests we need realistic goals for local systems, a national workforce strategy for social care, and focus on leadership and culture in mental health and maternity services
October 20, 2023 at 9:34 AM
Huge concerns in maternity, mental health services. So what does #CQC think we should do? There is opportunity is systems working.
October 20, 2023 at 9:33 AM
Incredibly difficult but unsurprising messages from Care Quality Commission. Growing risk of unfair care as pressure grow on workforce, adult social care, and cost of living crisis only adds to the challenges. #CQC
