Ancient history mainly, current affairs too. I enjoy making arrows, practising archery, collecting La Rocka clothes, reading, growing trees from seed and now learning Gàidhlig.
Parakeets in the garden. Again.

Side by side comparison of the two sets. The red and hooped arrows are 5/16 diameter and the gradient 4 fletched are 23/64. For target shooting at different distances.

Another different set I’ve made for 80yds and above. Cresting loosely inspired by the Scarlet Slippers these are made of Spruce, 28” long, 70 grain points and hand cut feathers. For my English Longbow. #arrows

Some arrows I’ve made recently. The cresting is inspired by a photo posted by @richardmortimer.bsky.social a little while back, with his kind permission.
28” long, with 125gr points, weigh 565-570 grains and have 4 hand coloured fletches. They are for use at targets 60yds and under. #arrows

Change of plan. Was making poor headway with Sir Thomas Browne as I’ve little familiarity with that period or the concepts discussed so have put it aside for another day.
This is the replacement; really enjoying it.

This week’s reads. JB Priestly’s description of London life nearly a century ago…wow! 1930’s really are a distant land in thought and act.

Got home and looked in the pot containing a dormant magnolia and there’s a woodland strawberry there. In January. In London. That’s not right is it? Strawberries are a summer thing aren’t they?

Perfect conditions for winter archery today. Warm(ish), still(ish). Trying different combinations of bows and arrows and this selection wasn’t great at 100yds.
But a great day out nonetheless.

Murky on the field this afternoon, the mist appeared as the temperature dropped. Got a couple of hours practice in though, so no complaints!
