I have a theory. Hoopa's favourite food is doughnuts, Both rings and doughnuts have holes. Therefore I am fully convinced that Hoopa tries to eat their rings on a regular basis.

Currently thinking about pokemon ecosystems that don't involve trainers as its something we don't get to see often and I think it'd be interesting to put together fictional food webs, if anyone has any examples of pokemon explicitly preying on another e.g Mareanie and Corsola please let me know.
