G - Thinking About Comboing Off
@frozennorthmtg.bsky.social
Part-time streamer, full-time museum goer.

Talk to me about your degenerate combos.
The research is already captured by the National Archives. So we have that to be thankful for. Any info really (including books) created by nasa is safe.

Its still a shitty shameful thing by this admin. Just a wanton disregard for how a govt should operate

Awesome! I appreciate your time and the explanation

Hey, can you expand on what “accessible competition” means in this context? Thanks!

what are some go to heuristics for building a commander deck you like to use?

Always appreciate your thoughts on the format. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of PFP meetings, see the discussions involving tide and how folks weigh the impact of it on the format. I'd like to keep it around since it's one of the few competative creatureless combos, but I understand the concerns

Any insight on the Bowers injury? Hes obviously a dog when healthy, but will last week carry over?

Miracle on Ice, if folks are even kinda into hockey/sports

All things considered, the deck's biggest weakness is simply losing to itself. All while that’s great, its not nothing.

Shoutout to @kalikaiz.bsky.social for the SB guide and general good vibes.

High Tide probably won't get re-banned for power, but if all the pilots take long enough to go off, they’ll ban it for time reasons. Even after lightly apologizing to my opponents, most folks dont mind you going off if you don’t waste time doing so.

The deck is as powerful as all get out and go, though. While the interaction wasn’t the most plentiful this weekend, what showed up was little more than a speed bump. One thing that really helped both in game and socially was the speed at which I went off.

Thoughts: The sideboard is very much a work in progress, but not very far from where I want it. The Dizzy Spell is a stand in for a Gigadrowse that's in the mail, and one of the Envelops should probably be the 4th Gigadrowse as well.

The Snaps didn't really end of mattering because this player didnt have Standard Bearers, but certainly what should be done vs most WW.

G2: Another one where they were just a turn too slow. Put me dead on board, but thanks to RNG and Pieces of the Puzzle, I got there on my T4.

Round 3: White Weenie:

G1: They werent fast enough even with a slow hand from me. They cast Guardians' Pledge on T4 to put me dead the next turn, but I went off T5

Sideboard: +4 Snap / -3 Hidden String -1 Reach Through Mists

With all respect to my opponents, this ended up being the hardest game of the day because i nearly ran out of gas even after getting through most of the deck. However, I was able to find the Petals of Insight with my final Brainstorm and go off from there.

Sideboard: +4 Snap / -2 Hidden String -1 Reach Through Mists -1 Gigadrowse.

G2: Fairly similar to G1, except they landed a Mesmeric Fiend T2 to snag a High Tide. Didnt really end of mattering, since on T4 I cast High Tide, Snapped their Fiend, then cast the new High Tide and went off.

Round 2: Elves
G1: A matchup where being on the play G1 is a huge help. Another matchup though where, esp G1, its ships passing. Not much to say about this one. They landed a bunch of elves T3, but I had everything I needed and went off T4.

G2: They Pyroblasted a T2 Merchants Scroll, so my hand didn’t develop as quickly as i would have liked. On T3 they cycled a bunch but apparently ran out of steam (lucky me). I was able to Pieces of the Puzzle into gas and go off T5. I Dispelled an additional Pyroblast in the process of comboing.

Round 1: Cycle Storm
G1:Pretty close to ships passing in the night. I was able to stop them from combing by using a timely Muddle the Mixture on their Cabal Ritual T3. I went off the next turn.

Sideboard: +2 Dispel +2 Envelop / -1 Reach Through Mists -3 Hidden Strings.
