With it being retractable, does it tear through her arm each time? Considering how central our bones are, there would be a lot of flesh to go through
I would assume that she had some sort of healing factor as well. Albeit a minor one, otherwise it's used in desperation

Not to mention the infectivity of the virus itself. I can imagine that infecting the bones is far harder, more or less requiring direction interaction with host to victim.
