Remembering my GG Uncle, Joseph #Allton, killed in action 8th May 1917 at Fresnoy-en-Gohelle during the Battle of #Arras.
He has no known grave, and is remembered on the Arras #Memorial.
Joseph, 25, was from #Bedworth #Warwickshire

On the anniversary of the #Lusitania sinking, I am reminded of this headstone in #Lijssenthoek #CWGC.
It’s rare that a soldier’s reason for fighting is so clearly & publicly recorded.
Remembering Dvr Leland Wingate Fernald, #USA volunteer in #Canada, died 1 year 1 day after the Lusitania sank 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇧🇪

Really pleased to have been able to visit the Chattri (Umbrella) Memorial this week; it’s been on my list for years.
High on the South Downs above #Brighton, the Memorial honours #Indian #Army soldiers of #WW1 who were cremated there, their ashes later buried at sea.

🧵 From the World Rugby Museum, the only surviving shirt from the first #England team of 1871, another from the ‘Anglo-Australian’ tour of 1888 (later The British Lions), France 1912 (the first with a cockerel) and the match ball from *that* #Barbarians v All Blacks match in 1973 3/3

🧵 Plenty of #WW1 content too - the painting is the England Grand Slam winning team of #1914 - 6 of the 15 men have blacked-out England badges, representing their death in the Great War, including AL Harrison VC (Zeebrugge). Also Ronnie Poulton-Palmer’s cap and pitchside memorial. 2/3

🧵 Enjoyed a great family day out at #Twickenham yesterday; both the stadium tour and World #Rugby #Museum were excellent. Two rugby-mad lads tried on the #England changing room for size and practised their run out of the tunnel! 1/3

Finished the work year on a high with two very successful solo school gigs. Last week, probably my longest commute of 288 miles to Truro; yesterday my shortest of c.1 mile!
Many more good things to come in 2025, but for now - over to Uncle Noddy for an important announcement…

A fantastic first visit to Queen Elizabeth’s High School in #Gainsborough today, working with Y9 who really engaged with the experience and learning on offer.
Wonderful to see that the school continues to remember former pupils who fell in both world wars. #Lincolnshire #WW1 #WW2 #Memorial
