In total, we have identified 34 fossil fuel generating units at 15 plants with delayed retirements. Those power plants emitted almost 65 million metric tons of GHG (CO2e) in 2023. 6/

In Wyoming, PacifiCorp had originally planned to close two coal-fired units at Jim Bridger by 2028. But, in the company’s 2023 IRP, it announced that those units will not close until 2037. Jim Bridger was the 11th biggest climate polluter in the entire country in 2022. 5/

In Georgia, Plant Bowen was scheduled to close two coal-fired units in 2027 and two more in 2035. But in its 2025 IRP Georgia Power announced plans to keep the units open until 2038. Bowen emitted more climate pollution than the entire state of Vermont in 2022. 4/

In Michigan, the J. H. Campbell coal plant was scheduled to be closed in May 2025. Days before the scheduled closure, the DOE issued an emergency order to keep the plant running for 90 days. The order was extended in August to keep the plant going through November. 3/

In Maryland, two oil-fired units at Herbert A. Wagner and two coal-fired units at Brandon Shores were scheduled to shut down mid-2025. But, in January, PJM reached an agreement with Talen Energy to keep the plants open until May 2029. 2/
