It's important to be aware that accessibility is so much more than just screen readers. Surveys have shown that screen magnifiers are the most used assistive technologies.

A lot of HTML errors are caused by incorrectly nested elements. "It's completely valid to put the puppy inside the box, but it's not valid to put the box inside the puppy" -

Well written HTML matters for accessibility, user experience, SEO and robustness. But the semantics can be confusing and a lot of sites still don't use sectioning elements like 'main' and 'header' or even h1, which causes accessibility issues.
